The great jazz trumpet player Ernie Hammes from Luxembourg released his new album “EVOLUTION” on 29 November 2017 at the Centre Culturel Opderschmelz in Dudelange, Luxembourg. The concert was so relaxing and also refreshing! It was a pleasure to observe the band and guests communicating together, to listen to each of them individually and all together, top level! Lots of emotions, thank you all!!
I had the opportunity to meet Ernie during a night when my friend Lata Gouveia was opening for mister Kiefer Sutherland at den Rockhal in Esch/Belval (LU). Lata and Ernie were performing their first duo together and it was a surprising night to me. It opened me to “something different”. Ernie Hammes is part of the great family of Luxembourg jazz musicians, together with many artists like Jeff Herr, Maxime Bender, Greg Lamy, Laurent Payfert, Niels Engels, and many more. I started following Ernie, who is famous in Luxembourg and far beyond its borders as he works on different international musical projects. “Ernie is an amazing lead trumpet player and jazz soloist. His musical knowledge expands beyond the norm. It was great to meet him and work together, as we performed my Big Band repertoire with the Luxembourg Jazz Orchestra. It was a wonderful concert and I look forward to many more!” said Michel Camilo, February 2014. Ernie Hammes studied classical music in Luxembourg as well as in France before he joined the Luxembourg Army Concert Band in 1987 to become their principal trumpet.
